Wheat... lots of wheat... fields of wheat... a tremendous amount of wheat... and a lagomorph

Wheat...(or rye)....
lots of wheat...(or rye)....
fields of wheat...
a tremendous amount of wheat... (even in the barley-fields)

you can understand the obsession in Woody Allen's film Love and Death: it gets a bit oppressive in the prairie-fields.
Field scabious lines the field margins.......
....contrasting with small scabious in the meadows. I've not knowingly seen devils-bit scabious.

A new word was learnt today.....lagomorph . No doubt I'm not the first to think it, but it's a great name for the lads in Dover on a Saturday night.

It is apparently a clever word for rabbits and hares. I shall use it often.

On the Isle of Portland, it is unlucky to use the word 'rabbit', so they say 'bunny'. I reckon lagomorph is much better...

Lagomorph....that's a word to bring up in the snug when it all goes quiet!
I have a friend from Portland who calls rabbits 'Fluffy thing with long ears!' Her children have a pet Fluffy thing with long ears!

I shall be dropping the word lagomorph into every conversation in a very casual and knowing manner.

p.s. you don't happen to be a professional photographer, do you? The quality of your pics is astounding.

Steve ,
Enjoyed the last cereal , sorry , serial of your blog .
There is always a good show of Devil's Bit Scabious at White Hill , a bit further along Fackenden Lane from the Down .
Never heard your new word before , mind you , I don't go to Dover on Saturday nights .

Steve, Goosey - do Portlanders eat "bunny pie" or "fluffy thing with long ears stew" then?
"Jugged lagomorth" sounds rather prehistoric.

DoT - no doubt you gave others a good laugh with your compliment, but in fact I am a pro, having been paid £30 by the BBC for using a pic in the Wildlife mag. It was an email out of the blue, yay!

Greenie, that's awful. I'll check out White Hill if I ever escape East Kent, thanks.

Lagomorph. Hmm. Just doesn't roll off the tongue, but I like it. The last photo was fun and artsy! Love all the wildflowers and grassy fields.

The wheat looks great...especially with flowers scattered at the edge. Lagomorph..great word...if I would remember it. By all means use it often and then maybe I'll remember what it means.
