Finally.....a life tick - Little Auk! After the marvellous seawatching conditions yesterday (which I missed, having to drive north of London) when the Bockhill watchers descended on Kingsdown and saw loads, a couple of hours spent watching from the end of Deal pier brought its rewards.

A little dumpy thing about the size of a starling floated towards (and then under) the pier, soon followed by a second. The anglers looked at me strangely as I tracked the birds around their rods.

So, that's Little Auk ticked....what next? Hen Harrier? No, too late.
Not much else passed the pier - kittiwakes and other gulls, curlews, a dozen shelduck and three divers, as well as the usual resident
Turnstones including Stumpy.

An interesting fish was landed as I passed, identified by an angler as a
Sea Scorpion. Tasty!
