...is that Parakeet sitting on that branch while people walk by near him? Is he displaying? He is a fine specimen, with his ring round his neck.
Ah, that's why.....he has a mate.
It's his job to look out for trouble, while she.......
....digs out the nest-hole, sawdust spraying everywhere. And he continues to sit there, because he's on a promise.

What beautiful birds!! Are those wild where you live?? Your photos are great.
I have some Snowdrops that I just noticed blooming the other day too. A promise of Spring...I love them. Oh yes, and what's the deal with the birds...ARE they wild??
Thanks for your interest - a flock of about 600 Rose-Ringed Parakeets has grown up in this area from some escaped pet birds, and a similar larger flock has established in London. We are waiting for the flocks to join up in the next few years - there's a gap of about 50 miles at the moment.
They're beautiful! For over 30 years there were colonies of monk parrots living in the wild here. I'm told they escaped when a truck overturned. Their nests became a nuisance to the electric company, and despite widespread protests, they were euthanized last year. It makes me sick to think about it. :-(
Interesting avout the Parakeets Steve...I work in SE London and see 100s everyday, that is only 25miles from my patch but I am yet to see (or more likely hear their racket) around here....only a matter of time as you say...
